The private fishery at Marabou Ranch consists of over two miles on the famous Elk River and 10 still-water fisheries. The Marabou Meadows include ten acres of ponds linked by a beautiful meadow meander-full of trophy trout. This particular portion of the ranch holds a naturally diverse fishery that caters to all skill levels and disciplines. Most days on the water at Marabou are not fishing, but catching.
A long-time Steamboat resident, Pat has contagious enthusiasm for life. Pat grew up fishing the fabled waters of northern Michigan and has since guided hunting and fishing throughout North America. Pat holds a degree in Fisheries and Wildlife from Michigan State University and was a co-founder of the North Park Fishing Club in Walden. Pat is Marabou’s, “River Keeper” and is a licensed Outfitter (#2727) in the state of Colorado. He leads our off-site fishing and hunting program and has procured many off-site fishing destinations. Pat’s excitement and knowledge of fly-fishing guaranties a world-class day on the water.
The Elk River is regarded as one of the best freestone rivers in Colorado. Marabou implemented a river habitat improvement program that included giant limestone boulder cross-stream structures and transplanting thousands of willows for stream bank stabilization. This has provided deep holes and a narrow river channel to help maintain cooler water temperatures. The river and the ponds are world-class fisheries and are managed for trophy trout fishing. There is absolutely no better place on earth to learn and master the art of fly-fishing than on Marabou’s “home waters”.
The Elk River is not the only water that our Owners have fly-fishing access to. Marabou Ranch offers one of the best fly-fishing programs in the lower 48 states. In addition to our home waters, we have over 100-miles of private and public water to fish in northwest Colorado, providing a diverse array of prime angling opportunities. Many rivers fish better depending of the time of year and water levels. Or sometimes, it is just refreshing angling different water, chasing a special hatch, or targeting a specific species. The waters within an hours’ drive of Steamboat represent some of the finest trout streams in the nation.
