Decisions, Decisions- How to make the most of your Marabou Ski Vacation

The snow is falling and Steamboat Springs is under a beautiful blanket of snow! Steamboat Resort reports more runs open everyday.  For most of us, it’s been awhile since we’ve been on skis or boards. A refresher is always welcome, and skiing with someone who knows our mountain well, can unlock all kinds of exciting hidden runs. Luckily for us at Marabou, we have four amazing snow guides to show us around Mt. Werner. Here are the steps for creating memories on the mountain.

First, you’re going to want to ski in and ski out, in style. Join us at the Marabou Ranch Mountain Camp. The Mountain Camp sits at the center of the base area, literally steps from loading on the gondola and getting first tracks on Steamboat’s renowned Champagne Powder™. The Marabou experience continues here with a fully stocked bar, hot cocoa and espresso machines, two big screen tvs, fireplace and chef-prepared chili lunches every Sunday during the winter.

Next, you’ll need to select one of our amazing Snow Sport Master Guides. Here is a quick bio of each to help you decide:

Caroline Lalive – Alpine: Caroline has been a native of Steamboat Springs and a member of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club since age 16. She has competed in three Olympic Games and reached six world-cup podiums since her US Ski Team debut in 1996. Caroline has since retired from ski racing and still calls Steamboat Springs home. You are sure to get a fast trip down the mountain with Caroline.

Nelson Carmichael – Alpine: A native of Steamboat Springs Colorado since age 12 and named Skier of the Year by the U.S. Olympic Committee, Nelson Carmichael has an intimate knowledge of this Colorado mountain community terrain and even has a mogul named after him at the Steamboat Ski area. This two-time Olympic team member and Bronze medalist for Mogul skiing will be your Master Guide from mountain top to base.

Erin Simmons – Snowboarding: Olympian Erin Simmons is a three-time silver medalist in the Winter X-Games, and is ranked as one of the top 10 snowboarders in the world. Skiing by the age of 2 and snowboarding by the age of 12, Erin is ready and willing to show you all her tricks of the trade.

Brett Buckles- Alpine:  Born and raised in Steamboat, Brett embraces what it truly means to inhabit the lifestyle of Ski Town, USA. Growing up competing in barrel racing and ski racing, she spent four years on the US Ski Team with the Alpine program before turning her focus to her education. After receiving her Journalism degree at CU Boulder, she enjoyed a second stint on the US Ski Team competing in Ski Cross. Now retired, she spends her time ripping powder laps and carving up groomers in the winter, and riding her horse in the summer. She’s sure to give you the local’s perspective on all things Steamboat.
