Lot Story

One of the best storytellers to represent this county was none other than Theodore Roosevelt was drawn to the Yampa valley in 1905. Some of his early hunts in Colorado gave him firsthand knowledge of the area. On June 12, 1905, he created the Park Range Forest Reserve protecting and preserving countless acres of land from open grazing and harvesting timber. Years later this area would be re-named Routt National Forest after John Routt who maintained a keen interest in the advancement and welfare of the county bearing his name. If a visitor from Routt County wanted to meet with him, he cleared his schedule to see him right away. Routt then enthusiastically asked questions about resources, mining, development and news of the past, present and future of his namesake county.
